So, I spent most of my day with the charming and slightly crazy Bette Davis. I watched ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’ again and I swear it is a movie I will never get tired of. It still makes my heart leap into my mouth in moments of suspense.
I’ve been trying to collect all of Davis’ movies for a while now, I’ve watched a fair few but no where near her back catalogue. My amazon list is filled with the movies I still need to watch, and it’s not like the internet is full of old movies of hers to watch online - it’s all about the latest streaming blockbuster these days. Who cares if the actors are wooden so long as the explosions are big enough and there are plenty of scantily clad girls screaming for help. Where have all of the heroines gone? All of the strong willed actresses pouring their heart into a part, it seems these days once you look a day over 25 no one wants to know anymore after that point you’re destined to shoot romcoms with bad punch lines and have the odd bit part in a straight to video movie. I dispair of it sometimes, the movie industry really is eating itself, and don’t even get me started on remakes.
